Registration of Death

These notes are to help your register the death

This must be done before a funeral can take place. We advise that this is done as soon as possible.

YOU SHOULD REGISTER THE DEATH within the district where the death has taken place within 5 days of the death. The death can be registered in another Registrars district in England and Wales, by Declaration of death, but this can delay the funeral by upto 7 days as all documentation has to be forwarded to the Registar for the district of death occurred in and certificates posted back to applicant.

A list of Registrars can be found lower down on this page. We can advise which registrar's office you should use.

  2. The deceased person's Birth Certificate (if you can find it).
